Last week I was in Cincinnati for a wedding and to visit friends. While there, I went with some friends to a restaurant called Gordos. Gordos has a large selection of beer, fantastic apps, and a huge selection of gourmet burgers.
When it comes to burgers, I am pretty plain. I always just get mine with cheese, ketchup, mustard, and sometimes onions. I felt really boring ordering this at a restaurant that specializes in fancy burgers, so I went with the Hawaiian. The Hawaiian burger at Gordos comes with roasted pineapple, lettuce, tomato, cucumber slices, mayonnaise, red onion, barbecue sauce, and American cheese.
Who knew pineapple would be so amazing on a burger?! I, for one, should have realized this. Pineapple on pizza is the best invention ever, so it makes sense that pineapple on a burger is as equally delicious.
I re-made the Hawaiian burger last night. I omitted the tomato and the red onion. Instead I mixed diced onion into the patty and used an onion bun. You need to try this burger tonight. So.freaking.good.
Hawaiian Burger (serves 4)
-1 pound of ultra lean ground beef
-1 tablespoon worcestshire sauce
-3 tablespoons barbeque sauce (plus a little extra for topping the finished burgers)
-1/2 of a small onion, diced
-4 pineapple slices
-several cucumber slices (about 3-4 per burger)
-4 onion buns (or plain buns, whatever you prefer)
-4 slices of cheddar cheese
1. Mix together the beef, worcestshire sauce, and barbeque sauce. Form meat into four equal sized patties and coat the grill or grill pan with non-stick cooking spray. Heat the grill to high heat and lightly grill the pineapple slices, set aside. Put the burgers on the grill and cook until desired doneness.
2. Toast the buns and top with a slice of cheese each, a slice of pineapple each, a few slices of cucumber, a burger, and a little barbeque sauce.
3. Yum!

I have never been a huge fan of cooked pineapple. But I like the idea of cucumber slices on it! I sure does look appealing! I might make an exception for this burger! Nicely done!
This looks so juicy and yummy! Totally hungry now :)
